Land Trust to combine celebration, commitment at annual session Dec. 6

December 4th, 2007

Ken SweenyNorth Olympic Land Trust’s annual meeting will be a celebration of the largest number of acres the nonprofit organization has protected to date in a single year of its history.

But the Dec. 6 event will go beyond a party.

President Ken Sweeney said he wants to make sure members and other supporters know about some of the challenges that come with success.

“We think we’re on track to help property owners protect special qualities of land on more than 300 acres by the end of 2007 or shortly after that,” Sweeney said. “That certainly is cause for celebration, but we also need to make sure all our supporters know that the more land we protect, the greater the associated costs for making sure conservation agreements are upheld in perpetuity. And as more people hear about the Land Trust and our outstanding partners, Friends of the Fields, the greater are the requests for our services.”

The annual meeting, in a private meeting area of The Bushwhacker Restaurant will be preceded by an informal social hour, from 5 to 6 p.m. The meeting and program are scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. All activities are open to members and others interested in the Land Trust’s work. Children cannot be accommodated because the route to the meeting room is through the lounge, Sweeney said.
