Originally from the Chesapeake Bay region of
Maryland, she has lived in Port Angeles since 2001. The Land Trust’s focus on protecting farmland and wildlife habitat attracted Wharton to the organization, she said. Wharton’s educational and professional

She worked in a refugee clinic on the Pakistani Afghan border as well as serving a year on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. In Port Angeles, she worked at First Step Family Support Center doing community outreach nursing with families with newborns. She co-authored Daughters of the Desert: Stories of Remarkable Women from the Jewish, Christian and Muslim Traditions. She and her husband Rob Epstein, M.D., a
partner at Family Medicine of Port Angeles, are parents of a
17-year-old son, Forrest, and a 10-year-old daughter, Maya. |
