Action in Congress adds to local Land Trust work
June 30th, 2008Recent U.S. Congressional action extending tax benefits for conservation easement donors already is creating more work for local Land Trust leaders.
But North Olympic Land Trust’s Conservation Committee co-chairman, John Willits, doesn’t mind.
Congressional action on June 18 lets property owners who complete permanent legal conservation easements by the end of 2009 get the same expanded tax benefits that were in effect in 2006 and 2007. Lower-level benefits will return in 2010 unless Congress adopts additional legislation. Read the rest of this entry »

North Olympic Land Trust selects Executive Director

Greg Good
North Olympic Land Trust’s first Executive Director, Greg Good, is so eager to move to his favorite place in the United States, he’s running toward his new job.
Good doesn’t officially start work until July 1, but he’s already signed up to run North Olympic Discovery Marathon’s half-marathon June 8.
“I can hardly wait to get there and start work,” he said in a phone interview from his home in Colorado. “The Olympic Peninsula is my favorite place in the United States, and I’m honored to be able to help the communities of the North Olympic Peninsula preserve the special qualities of the region.” Read the rest of this entry »
Land Trust’s second plaque goes up at County Courthouse
May 6th, 2008North Olympic Land Trust’s second plaque at the Clallam County Courthouse is in place.
The plaque lists names of individuals and groups wanting to show support for the Land Trust’s work in protecting special qualities of area lands or to honor others while contributing funds for the Land Trust’s efforts. Click here to find out how to get a listing.
The plaque tradition began in 2007 when the Land Trust gave its Elwha Return artwork to the citizens of Clallam County, and County officials arranged for its display in the Courthouse’s entry area facing Fourth Street, in Port Angeles. Read the rest of this entry »
