Second Saturday Stroll – Elwha Education

For our July Stroll we will be exploring what used to be Lake Aldwell on July 11th at 4:30 pm, led by Chris Morgan. We will be meandering the trails and discussing the transformation of the Elwha Watershed’s ecosystems after the famous dam removals of 2011 – 2014.

In addition to working as an instructor in the Natural Resources program at Peninsula College, Chris has worked in science education for the Elwha Science Education program, Port Angeles High School and NatureBridge, and has worked in the field as well. Together, we’ll get to know our local flora and fauna while learning more about the inner workings of the Elwha watershed’s ecosystems.

We will gather at the parking area at the end of Lake Aldwell Road (see map), off of Highway 101 just west of its Elwha River crossing. Their are varying trails, but participants should expect to walk up to 2 miles on uneven terrain.

Please bring a water bottle and anything that would keep you comfortable on a nature walk. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended, some folks may find trekking poles useful.
