Dick Goin
March 21st, 2016 – It was inspiring to have over 200 people packed into the Elk’s Lodge for the 8th Annual Conservation Breakfast as we celebrated this beautiful place we get to call home.
A true highlight of the breakfast was posthumously honoring Mr. Dick Goin with the 2016 ‘Out Standing in the Field’ Award. As Dr. Sam Brenkman noted in his comments, “Dick represented an all-too-rare combination of avid outdoors-man, deep thinker and ultimate conservationist who had a precise memory and a reverence for rivers and fish.”
At the breakfast, we heard an excerpt from Dick’s speech at the 1983 “Olympic Wild Fish Conference”. After the program many people commented to me about how much they appreciated hearing Dick in his own words. You can hear his full 25 minute remarks from that conference, as well as an introduction from then Olympic National Park Superintendent Roger Contor by clicking here.
