Behind the Scene’s Tour at River’s Edge (SOLD OUT)

December 16 at 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

At the end of December 2022, heavy rain quickly melted the snow and ice that had accumulated during a recent storm. In just a few days, the Dungeness River swelled from a discharge of 93 cubic feet per second, to 2,300 cubic feet per second. Thanks to the setback of two miles of levee over the last few years, these waters were able spread out and naturally meandered through nearly 200 acres of floodplain that had been disconnected from the river since the 1960’s – instantly creating prime salmon habitat.

Join Lexi Wagor, the Land Trust’s Community Relations Manager, for a behind the scenes tour of the floodplain restoration and levee setback project along the lower Dungeness River! Learn about the history of the river, this groundbreaking project and the partnerships that made it happen, and the changes we are seeing so far on the river.

The tour starts at the historic Dungeness Schoolhouse, and consists of about 2 miles on the flat, compact gravel levee. No restrooms are available along the tour.

Update 11/21/23: This tour is now full. Please email Lexi at lexi@northolympiclandtrust.org to be added to the waitlist or sign up for another date.
