Day of Service

January 21, 2019 at 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Join the Land Trust for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 21. Together, we’ll be part of a community service project aimed at building a school garden at Franklin Elementary in Port Angeles. Specifically, our team will be working to build a wheelchair accessible bed, and time allowing, the path leading to the bed.

The Land Trust is looking forward to contributing toward this project, and we hope you are too! Creating opportunities for youth to engage with the land (and connect with local food) is an important part of fostering a responsible land ethic among the next generation. If you would like to volunteer with us, please sign up via the online form below.

What to bring:

Organizers of the service project will provide materials for constructing the raised bed, but here are some things to bring, if possible:

  • Warm, weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.
  • Work gloves
  • Water and a snack (optional). Event organizers do plan to have some beverages/snacks.
  • Tools (hammer, shovel, rake, cordless drill– if you have any of the listed tools and don’t mind bringing them, that would be great, but the Land Trust will provide as many tools as possible.
  • Anything else you need to be comfortable working outdoors.

Volunteers are welcome to participate for any amount of time from 12:30-4 p.m.
