Lyre Conservation Area

All are welcome to a community celebration on April 23rd to mark the Grand Opening of the Lyre Conservation Area.

The Lyre Conservation Area – which opened for non-motorized public day use on Dec 26, 2015 – is a 280-acre property just east of the Lyre River on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This Conservation Area features the estuary at the mouth of the Lyre River, streams, tide-flats, kelp beds and a ½ mile of Strait of Juan de Fuca shoreline.   It also includes a large diverse upland forest as well as excellent habitat for salmon and a variety of migratory and resident birds and wildlife.  Just 20 miles west of Port Angeles, it is an ideal spot for activities like bird and wildlife viewing, surfing, picnicking, fishing and beach walking.

Festivities will begin at 12:30 PM and continue through the afternoon.  Activities will include opportunities to explore the land and learn from local experts about area birds, habitat restoration, the cultural history of the surrounding property and more. A “Grand Opening Ceremony” will be at 2:00 on the waterfront (arrive early to give yourself enough time to shuttle and walk to the 3/4 of a mile to the water).

Due to limited parking at the Lyre Conservation Area, parking and a continuous shuttle will be provided at Crescent School in Joyce 20 miles west of Port Angeles on Hwy 112.  The shuttle will run continuous from 12:30 – 4pm from the school to the Lyre Conservation Area.

Public Transportation is also available via Clallam Transit –  Land Trust supporters can ride from the Gateway Transit Center at 12:00 pm or from Haggen’s at 12:05 pm or from Laird’s Corner Park ‘n Ride at 12:10 pm and then arrive to the Crescent School by 12:30 pm. It’s a wonderful opportunity for visitors to spend the afternoon at the new Lyre River Conservation Area and return by bus! View the Bus Schedule here.

Come prepared for the weather and to walk 1 ½ (round-trip) miles on easy terrain.  Let us know if you have limited mobility, we can make a plan to suit your needs.

RSVPs are greatly appreciated, simply fill out the form below contact or Brad at brad@northolympiclandtrust.org, or call (360) 417-1815 ext 4.
