Mushroom Foraging and Identification with North Olympic Library System

October 26, 2024 at 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Learn how to identify mushrooms and begin your mushroom-hunting journey.

Join David Rogers as he leads a session on how to identify mushrooms. Learn about the different parts of the mushroom and understand how to use field guides for identification. This presentation will take place in the Forks Branch Library meeting room. After the session, explore the Elk Creek Conservation Area with David, the North Olympic Land Trust, and Forks Library staff as you search for forest treasures. Don’t forget to pack a lunch and savor the natural surroundings!

Due to limited parking at Elk Creek Conservation Area and the potential ecological impact of a large group, the foraging part of the program is limited to the first 20 lecture attendees.

Waivers are required for foraging participation in this program; please sign a waiver when you arrive.

David is a passionate mushroom lover who spends much of his time growing gourmet mushrooms. His passion for mushrooms led to the start of the Olympic Peninsula Fungi Festival a multi-day educational event focused on fungi.

The 255-acre Elk Creek Conservation Area in Forks offers beautiful regenerating forests along a tributary of the Calawah River called Elk Creek. The trail is 2.6 miles out and back along a mix of gravel and natural surfaces, with a small section of 10% grade.
