Since we started the “Raise Your Hand” campaign this spring, 10 of your fellow Land Trust supporters have come forward to let us know they plan to leave an estate gift to support land conservation on the North Olympic Peninsula.
If you want to support conservation of farms, fish and forests with a bequest or any type of gift from your estate, we ask you to alert us. That’s what we mean by “raise your hand:” Talking it over today- in confidence- so that your planned gift accomplishes what you want when tomorrow comes.
A good place to start is by talking to Executive Director Tom Sanford or anyone you know on North Olympic Land Trust’s Board of Directors. Reach Tom at (360) 417-1815 ext. 6 or emailing him: tom@northolympiclandtrust.org.
In a short visit or call, Tom (or a board member, if you prefer) will make sure we have the information we need to handle your gift correctly. So far, we’ve met with people who plan to give their house, their IRA, cash and stocks. Regardless the size of the gift, planned gifts are a powerful way to make a lasting difference for local land conservation.
Nothing about your plan will be made public without your specific permission. You can be as private or public as you choose when you raise your hand and nothing will prevent you from changing your mind whenever you want.
Exploring options:
You don’t have to have all your estate planning done, either. If you just want to learn what your options are, go ahead and raise your hand. Our goal in the “Raise Your Hand” campaign isn’t to persuade. Instead, it is to plan with you to make sure you get maximum joy from your support for land conservation.
Some donors are pleased to learn future estate gifts are an important consideration when the Land Trust plans its work. Knowledge of a future gift permits us to responsibly and confidently commit to projects in the future.
That’s not to say planned gifts need to be large. The national average bequest may be $30,000, but a $10,000 bequest has big impact at North Olympic Land Trust.
