Conservation Connection was a smash hit! It was a lively and inspiring afternoon centered on the intersection of art and conservation, bringing together community members and creatives in a shared space for dialogue and connection. Artists Gabe Newton, Natalie Niblack, Lexi Wagor, John Gussman, and Justin Johnson each offered their unique perspectives, sharing how their work engages audiences through the power of expression and storytelling.
Throughout the conversation, themes of responsibility, connection, and creativity emerged. Niblack, in particular, described humans as the “keystone species of the planet,” prompting a thoughtful discussion about our role within the natural world.
The panelists reflections highlighted how art can serve as a powerful tool for reframing perspectives, fostering empathy, and inspiring action. The discussion left us all with a deeper understanding of the ways creative practice can influence conservation efforts and a renewed sense of connection to the landscapes and communities we are all part of.
We extend special thanks to our dedicated volunteers, panelists, Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, Port Book and News, and the Field Arts and Event Hall for fostering a space where our attendees could truly ponder these important topics.
